Who am I?

Just had a great weekend in Oxford with my cell group from church. We’d hired out a rather swanky room in a hotel in the centre of the city to go through the Myers Briggs Type Indicator material. For those of you who wonder what on earth I’m talking about, Myers Briggs is a world renowned tool that helps people to understand their psychological preferences, and how they relate to people of different psychological types.

Vla!

dropmix.jpgWhen you’ve travelled, looking back there’s always those few treats that you get used to in a particular culture. As a kid, my family and I often journeyed over to the Netherlands, and there are so many good memories. Leisurely breakfast feasts with cold meats and cheeses, Indonesian reistaffels, and slabs of wonderful apple pie ‘mit slagroom’ (cream!).
This last week a friend of mine was over in Holland, and he dutifully brought back another classic – chewy, salty liquorice. Nice one, Amo. Thank you! 🙂
Didn’t quite manage the Vla though (artificially flavoured custardy stuff). Agh well, I guess a carton of that exploding in your luggage might cause a bit of a mess…

Mad as a brush

So, aparently if you’re American, and you see this sign, its a very funny thing.
And the whole ‘mad as a brush’ saying doesn’t translate too well either. Mad meaning angry rather than crazy and all.
We really should have taught those Americans English properly before the Boston Tea party had chance to happen. But maybe there was no hope in the first place. After all, who in their right mind would dump all that lovely tea into a harbour. They could have knicked it and drunk it at least…

Oh Happy Day

You know its been a good day when one of your friends turns to you and says, “You look happy, Pete. And you know, she was right. There are many frustrations in my life in lots of areas – personal, family, 24-7 – but I am happy. God is good. I’m feeling good… I can only hope that my current outlook on life lasts!

Highway 1

hgwy1.jpgI’ve always wanted to check out the coast from San Francisco to LA, and almost 15 years since I was first here, I got the chance.
The fabled Highway 1 winds its way from Downtown SF through Monterrey, snaking its way south past beautiful sandy beaches and ragged, storm battered cliffs. Pete, David and I almost became anesthetised to the beauty of the coastline as we were treated again and again to incredible vistas. What a treat to be able to take this route to visit friends in Bakersfield! I can remember a quiet moment, as I was alone, looking out over an unfamiliar ocean, and just saying ‘Thanks, God’.

Saved!

saved.jpgSo, I made it! I’m here in the States, on holiday and currently staying with the Guistinos just outside San Francisco. More of that later…
This is just a quick post about a great movie I saw on the way over here. I managed to get onto a Virgin Airways flight, and I’m really glad I did – loads of leg room and choice of what movies I wanted to watch and when.
I was really pleased to find that the movie ‘Saved!’ was on offer…
