Getting better…
Still only a pitiful 12% coverage though!

I obviously need to go travelling again…
Dead posh
Don’t you just love it when you get unexpectedly blessed? Right in the middle of Shirls and my trip to SA was our ‘year-going-out-aversary’. We decided it would be a nice touch to go for a slap up celebratory meal for our one night in Jo’burg, and we hunted around a website listing the menus of the cities nicer restaurants.
Time for some R&R…
So here’s the first update on Shirley and my travels in SA! Just thought I’d give you readers in the Northern Hemisphere something to be jealous about 😉
I’ve been given an amazing week of whirlwind tours around the Cape area, and I’ll try and give you a short run down. We’ve done so much its difficult to know where to start! Our first major outing was to Cape Point, on a lovely sunny, but rather blowy day. Cape point is the southernmost tip of the cape bay. Not quite the southernmost point of South Africa, but close enough for me to be satisfied I’d travelled as far south as I could. Much hilarity was had watching the cormorants trying to land on their cliff-side nests in a gale!
Celebrating art
Popped into the Tate Modern on the way home this evening to check out Carsten Holler’s Test Site, the latest of the Unilever Series of exhibits in the old Turbine Hall of the building.
Each time I go to one of these ehibits I really enjoy it. Highlights for me so far include The Weather Project and Embankment. The great thing about the Unilever series is how unashamedly fun so many of them are. I remember walking amongst the box moulds of ‘Embankment’ and having a great feeling of being a child amongst mountains of boxes that I would kick all over the place until I was worn out and could kick no more!
On this visit I didn’t have time to take advantage of the latest wonderful peice of art, but I’ll be back soon for my rapid trip to the 1st floor from the 5th 🙂
Riled
I had a quick pray this evening, and was struck again by something I started thinking about a couple of weeks ago. I receive a regular email from the mailing list of www.relevantmagazine.com. They often have some great articles, with a wide diversity of subject matter on following Jesus. Good stuff, check it out.
Anyway, one particular article included a tyrade from a writer berating their church members for going out and having nice meals with their friends one minute, and feeding homeless people a more meagre offering a few hours later.
Now that’s fast…
So, we hear today that Steve Irwin is killed by a Stingray. To begin with, I can’t say I was surprised, given the brave/idiotic approach he took towards deadly animals. But that’s not the reason for the post, per se.
I was wondering how on earth he actually got stung by one of these graceful creatures, so I looked them up on Wikipedia. The article had already been updated with information on how Steve died, and how incredibly rare his injury was.
Don’t you just love the internet?!
Reading Rocks!
Just had a top weekend at the Reading Festival! Hundreds of bands come to one of the biggest indie/alternative festivals in the world to ply their wares, and I found myself not disappointed with what was on offer.
I’ve been to the festival for most of the last 15 years or so, and this year was definitely one of the more memorable ones. Top performances for me this year were:
Muse
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Pearl Jam
TV on the Radio
Broken Social Scene
Tea ‘healthier’ drink than water
What we knew already…

Just off to put the kettle on.
