Another Boiler Room Ignites

mainpic.jpgThose mad fools! People are still being inspired by the story of that small group of people, trying to be obedient to the whispers of God, in a dilapidated old pub in Reading around 4 years ago.
So here I am at the launch of the City Boiler Room. Abbess Jude Smith is giving an inspiring talk between times of deeply God-connected worship lead by a band made up of some great friends of hers from Luton. Looking around there are people here who have paid a much higher price than I to be a part of this thing. I guess it reminds me of the hope that we have that God will use these Generation X monasteries to glorify His name in a really powerful way. As I write this, I find myself challenged by that sentence. Maybe God will do something really powerful through the Boiler Room movement. But maybe it’ll be something much quieter. Changed lives. Lives lived with hope where there previously was none. Journeys shared for a time before paths diverge…
…I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Transmission – A Festival for Mission

Transmission.jpgThe last month or so has seen me running around the place even more than usual. The reason (this time!) is ‘Transmission – A Festival for Mission’, starting on the 8th July.
24-7 is partnering with YWAM, Share Jesus International and NGM to put together a 4 day camping festival with speakers bringing their wisdom, and hopefully some of God’s too, on subjects ranging from being a missionary in the workplace, right through to planting churches amongst unchurched people groups.

Northward Bound

map.jpgThis week turned out to be a bit manic for travelling. It started with a quick trip down the road to Guildford after our Boiler Room prayer time here in Reading. Phil Evans, Cally Gee, Carla Trundle (top 24-7 types one and all!) and myself were catching up on delegate details for the mission festival 24-7 are organising this year, called ‘Transmission’. Its getting to that exciting and scary stage – exciting in anticipation of a fantastic time of God speaking and transforming peoples lives, and scary as we understand the organisation involved in putting together something bigger than 24-7 has ever pulled off before!

The Honourable Order of the Mustard Seed

HTCC.jpgIts Friday night, near Clapham, and I’m on a packed tube train. I guess most of the people with me are tired, at the end of a long working week, and I guess I am too, but that isn’t what’s on my mind right now.
I’m travelling to the first vow taking ceremony of the Honourable Order of the Mustard Seed, at least among my group of friends. Zinzendorf originally instituted the OMS several centuries ago, and it lead him to allow a small group of Moravian refugees to settle on his land. Later this same group would start an incredible 100 years of prayer, sending missionaries out all over the world.

DHOP

portlnd.jpgI’m sat writing this in the Downtown House of Prayer in Portland. There’s a worship and intersession time going on downstairs, and I’m sitting amongst many pictures of the nations in the map room, usually used for praying for the world. Its got the look and feel of many 24-7 Prayer rooms I’ve been in around the world in the past five years. It feels like home.

Couch surfin’

When we finally got to Bakersfield, a little later than intended (my usually impeccable timekeeping skills following me to the States), we hooked up with the wonderful Casey and Amy Johnson, and Doug Sala, along with some other friends from their church. They’re dreaming of a 24-7 Boiler Room in the downtown area, and the next day as we stood on the street praying over the building they would like God to release to them, nothing could have felt more natural.
Release your vision amongst them Lord!
