Well, it’s been a while since the last post on my trip to the States in August, but I’m still enjoying sorting through the several hundred pictures I took while I was there. So, it’s time for the sequel to ‘Great Scott’!
Having had such an amazing time at Crater Lake, Shirls and I decided that we needed to head back towards Portland via the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Yet again, the scenery of Oregon County did not disappoint…
We turned off the main highway to Bend at La Pine after stopping for a few well needed refreshments, and after a short while took a break at Crane Prairie Reservoir. I was hoping to see Osprey here – a rarity in the UK, but quite common in Oregon. Unfortunately they weren’t to be seen on this occasion, but I really wouldn’t have spent any time thinking about that at all, if I new of the experience I was to have in another couple of days time – but that’s for another post 😉
The highlight of the day was definitely our stop at Sparks Lake. By this stage we were two-thirds of the way around the Cascade Lakes Highway, and I was beginning to worry that we weren’t going to have any really amazing views. Thankfully I was wrong, and as the afternoon drew to a close, we stood on the southern banks of the lake, looking towards South Sister and Brokentop Mountains. Even the wildlife had stopped to take in the view.
Stunning.
