Gathering
information about the history of Christianity of the ancient Borough of
Reading has been an eye opener and has aroused in me a renewed,
enthusiastic belief that “my town” is on God’s map.
Its lost people are still on His heart as they have always been. The historic
Broad Street Chapel has been changed into a magnificent book shop called
Waterstones. The original
stained glass window depicting Jesus the Light of the World has been
retained and is now incorporated within one of the walls boldly stating
that Jesus is the Light of the World.
No one can change this truth.
History declared it and we are commanded to live it.
He alone has the power and the authority to dispel darkness in the
town of Reading and I am only one of the tools that the Holy Spirit
chooses to glorify the Name of Jesus. History making
continues and we who are alive today are part of that process of moving on
with the God of not only yesterday but also of today and tomorrow. In different
ways, reading about and absorbing the past has deeply stimulated me to
pray, to look at my life-style and to action.
I gained insight into God's compassionate heart and His desire for
all men to know him. Our God
did not come to condemn the people of Reading but to save them through
Jesus Christ. Lord turn my flicker into a flame which will draw men to Yourself. Researcher, Member of Tilehurst Free Church |
