Racial Justice Sunday - 11th September

A concert with Ben Okafor, 6pm at St Laurence’s church, will take the theme of ‘Love Justice’.

The concert is FREE, but a collection will be taken for the work of 2 justice-building organisations within the Diocese: Christian Concern for One World and Parents and Children Together. September 11th is, of course, a poignant day to hold such an event, emphasising the need for Christians to do all we can to make justice a priority - at home and internationally. Performing Arts activities will be hosted by local Christians throughout the evening, encouraging participation and thought, as well as a performance by Ben Okafor. A fair trade stall and fairly traded refreshments will be available.
All are welcome. For more infomation please contact readingboilerroom@24-7prayer.com

Venue Progress

Sweat, paint, tar, water, dust, moss, leaks, damp, frustration, satisfaction, exhaustion ... to name but a few of the things or feelings that the Reading Boiler Room Team have been facing.
We are currently tackling the Mezzanine Floor area (just above the Art Studio, running parallel to the main warehouse area) and it is proving to be a larger task than we had anticipated!!
Please pray for the following:
a solution to the leaking, rusting roof
good sealant paint for the damp wood
a strategy for the floor and how to support it sufficiently
money for the paint (there's a lot of wall space and the white is running out!)

Any expertise is welcome, after all we are aiming to make the building a usable space that serves the Church of Reading, enabling it to serve the town of Reading itself!! Do contac the office, or email us, if you know of anyone who has the 'know-how' when it comes to building, decorating, plumbing, engineering or electrics!

The (not really that sizzling) Summer

This Summer we will be closed duing August, however, do watch out for the Prayer Room at Greyfriars for Reading Festival:

Thu 25th - Sat 27th

If you're not able to make it whilst we're open, spare a thought for the delectable visitors that have the privilege of visiting our town. When you see 'likely looking candidates' who may be sporting the latest in mud fashion (depending on whether Mr Sun decides to bring the long-awaited heat wave!) spare a thought/prayer and ask God to use the music, the atmosphere and the people that they meet during that long weekend.

Rather than an 'invasion' (I'm sure many Caversham-ites have already had to grit their teeth after the latest influx of WOMADers) let's think of it as an opportunity to shine light, share love, and to look for Jesus in the midst of whatever experiences people are having. I find myself too often judging appearances and jumping to conclusions ... wouldn't it be amazing if Reading became a place where people always felt accepted, safe and welcome?! We'd have more than just our current record of pilgrims - how exciting!
